(GED)
Adult Education of the Kennebunks offers adults GED testing FREE of charge. Educational Counselor, Joan Cowgill, works with each student to develop an individual educational plan. The GED Test includes: Language Arts, Reading and Writing, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. The questions in each of these tests require general knowledge and thinking skills. Adults who are 18 and not enrolled in school are eligible to take this series of tests. We welcome students from Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, and surrounding communities. Even though students have not finished high school, they have frequently gained knowledge and skills through experience, reading, and informal training. The GED Tests are designed to measure the important knowledge and skills, usually learned during four years of high school that may have been gained in a different manner. Adults wishing to take the GED are required to take a GED pre-test. Pre-tests are available by appointment. Students who succeed in the pre-test may immediately schedule to take the GED. FREE tutorial assistance is available if pre-test scores indicate student needs instruction before taking the official test. We are currently offering small group tutorials for GED students who have taken the pretest and have specified areas to be strengthened before they go on to the actual GED. Classes are offered at no charge to the students. Workbooks are $18.00 for each subject. GED testing is FREE of charge and takes place by appointment at the Adult Education Office in Kennebunk High School, Monday through Thursday evenings, from 6:00-9:00. GED candidates are required to meet with Joan Cowgill, Educational Counselor, prior to taking the test. Please call 985-1116 for an appointment. Accommodations are available for people with documented learning disabilities.
