AFFIRMATIVE ACTION POLICY
The M.S.A.D. No. 71 schools endorse a program of Affirmative Action. This program will address itself to the problem of discrimination in the areas of age, race, religion, national origin, handicap and sex. The program is a commitment to:
1....ensure equitable employment policies and promotions within the M.S.A.D. No. 71 schools.
2....remedy the effects of any past discrimination in employment.
3....achieve a higher level of awareness on the part of all employees of discrimination and the effects of discrimination.
4....equalize opportunities for participation in all school related activities, and
5....provide a curriculum which will be non-discriminatory and which will increase student awareness of discrimination.
An individual and/or individuals who believe they have been discriminated against, shall follow the procedures for resolution as indicated in the District’s Affirmative Action Plan. A copy may be obtained at the M.S.A.D. No. 71 Central Office or at one of the schools.
Dissemination of Affirmative Action Policy
The Board of School Directors of Maine School Administrative District No. 71 approves and directs the release of the policy statements of affirmative action that clearly identify the Board’s intent not to discriminate.
The following persons, organizations and agencies will receive copies of the afore stated policies:
1. All students
2. All parents
3. All employees
4. Contractors/Suppliers
In keeping with the Affirmative Action regulations, it is the intent of the School Department that notification of the policy shall be an ongoing process; i.e. all applications, all general announcements and bulletins, all student handbooks, and all advertisements and materials used in the recruitment of employees shall contain the following statement. “M.S.A.D. No. 71 insures equal employment and educational opportunities and affirmative action regardless of race, sex, color, national origin, marital status, age, handicap, religion or Vietnam veteran status.”
