STUDENT HARASSMENT POLICY
Harassment because of race, color, sex, religion, ancestry or national origin, age or disability is prohibited. Such conduct is a violation of Board Policy and may constitute illegal discrimination under state and federal laws.
Harassment includes but is not limited to verbal abuse, threats, or physical assault based on race, color, sex, religion, ancestry or national origin, age or disability. Under the Maine Civil Rights Act, violence or threats of violence against a person or their property based on their sexual orientation are also illegal.
It is expressly against M.S.A.D. No. 71 policy for any student to make unwelcome sexual advancements or request for sexual favors, or to engage in any other unwelcome physical or verbal conduct of a sexual nature with another student. In addition, it is against District policy for the above to occur involving employees and students.
Any student who engages in harassment or sexual harassment will be subject to disciplinary action. Incidents of harassment involving students should be reported to a guidance counselor, administrator or school nurse immediately. Reported incidents will be investigated promptly.
Incidents, inquiries or concerns regarding sexual harassment should be forwarded immediately to The Affirmative Action Coordinator for M.S.A.D. No. 71, 87 Fletcher Street, Kennebunk, ME 04043, 985-1100.
