POLICY COMMITTEE

ROLE OF COMMITTEE

The purpose of the policy committee is to develop policies to serve as a framework for the successful and efficient functioning of the school unit.

MEMBERSHIP

The Policy Committee shall consist of 3 members of the Board of School Directors of M.S.A.D. # 71 and the Superintendent and/or his/her designee.

RESPONSIBILITIES

·           To schedule monthly committee meetings  

·           To identify issues needing policy development and prepare policy manual items to added, deleted or amended

·           To research timely topics and propose new or amended policies for consideration by the whole Board

·           To conduct a continuing review of the policy manual and recommend the need for amendments, deletions, or for new items

·           To act as editor of the policy manual

·          To insure that the student/staff handbooks are compatible with policy manual and report any findings to the Board

·           To insure the policy manual is up to date and accessible to the public

·           To present first and second readings in accordance with the School Board Policy Process and Procedure in the M.S.A.D. # 71 Policy Manual

MEETINGS

The Committee shall meet at least once per month during the school year.  Regular monthly meetings shall be scheduled one month in advance and notice of meetings posted as specifically required by Policy.  Special Meetings may be convened by the Committee Chairman, or at the request of the Chairman of the Board, upon 24 hours notice to the Committee.   All meetings are open to the public, unless convened in Executive Session.    

 

REPORTS TO THE BOARD

The Committee Chairman, or designee, shall provide a monthly written report to the Board at their regularly scheduled meetings.
