RESPONSIBILITIES OF SCHOOL BUS OPERATORS
The operator of a school bus is charged with the responsibility for the safety of the children, in his/her care.
The following responsibilities of school bus operators are as listed in Part III of the State Department of Education booklet, PUPIL TRANSPORTATION IN MAINE:
A. Speed Limit Responsibility
Speed in excess of 45 miles per hour shall be unlawful when a school bus is transporting pupils to and from school. At all other times, a school bus shall not exceed the duly posted speed limits, except that a school bus shall at no time exceed 55 miles per hour.
B. License Requirements
School bus drivers will hold all necessary licenses required by Maine law before assuming their duties.
C. Health
Each year, school bus operators shall submit evidence of good health, including physician’s certificate, and observe the same rules and regulations required of the instructional employees.
D. Services of School Bus Operators for Extracurricular Activities
Services of school bus operators will be required for bus trips in connection with extra curricular activities, upon request.
E. Transportation of Special Students
Transportation for special education purposes will be furnished for all pupils for whom the District is legally responsible. The driver will avail himself/herself of all knowledge of special treatment necessary for these students.
