Procedure for Off Air Videotaping
It is the intent of M.S.A.D. No. 71 to adhere to the provisions of the copyright laws in the area of videotaping. In an effort to discourage violation of copyright laws and to prevent such illegal activities:
1. All video equipment and tapes which have been purchased with school funds will be inventoried in the library and will be used in accordance with the “Guidelines for Off-Air Recording of Broadcast Programming for Educational Purposes.”
2. All school personnel shall receive a copy of the “Guidelines for Off-Air Recording of Broadcast Programming for Educational Purposes” and shall be expected to adhere to these guidelines.
3. An off-air recording log will be maintained as follows in the library:
Date, Time/Channel/Length/Program Title/Tape #1
Teacher, Dept./Use Date/Erase Date.
4. Each tape will be marked with all pertinent information, including the use and erase dates.
5. A reminder of the erase date will be sent from the library to the requesting teacher/department at the appropriate time.
6. A form letter (sample follows) will be available in the library for teachers to use to request from the producer permission to retain programs for educational use beyond normal use/erase dates.
