STUDENT ASSISTANCE TEAM
Maine School Administrative District 71 endorses Student Assistance Teams at each school to address social, emotional and academic difficulties experienced by students in grades K-12.
Student Assistance Teams are groups of professionals who meet to discuss and develop intervention plans to aid students who are experiencing difficulties that interfere with progress in school. Through a team approach, and in conjunction with classroom teachers, Student Assistance Teams (S.A.T.) can assess a student’s unique challenges then identify interventions or services to address those difficulties. The work of a Student Assistance Team creates conditions that promote the well-being, sense of hope, and untapped potential of each student.
The S.A.T. is not a substitute for, or an alternative to, the Pupil Evaluation Team (P.E.T.) process. Students eligible for the P.E.T. process may, however, be referred for matters not having to do with their impairment. The S.A.T. will mesh its work with similar programming throughout the district.
Uniform procedures are established for MSAD 71 Student Assistance Teams:
Step 1: The Referral Process
Any concerned staff member may initiate a S.A.T. referral for a student. The referral is completed and returned to the S.A.T. coordinator.
