Our students visit the library for 30 minutes each week with their class to learn library and information skills, hear great stories, and check out books.  Students also visit throughout the week to research classroom projects.  

    Students learn:  

  •     library manners

  •     the parts of a book

  •     care of Library materials

  •     kinds of books (fiction and non-fiction)

  •     title/author/illustrator

  •     parts of a title page

  •     how to use the automated card catalog (OPAC)

  •     the various genres

  •     how to use encyclopedias

  •     how to use the Dewey Decimal System

  •     how to do a bibliography

  •     to read and appreciate great books
